Drug Formulation

3 liang of Coptis, 3 liang of Scutellaria, 3 liang of Phellodendron, 3 liang of Astragalus, 3 liang of Forsythia, 3 liang of Peppermint, 3 liang of Gardenia, 3 liang of Sophora root, 1 basket of Holly leaves (washed with clean water), Chrysanthemum flowers, Eupatorium flowers, and Mimen flower.

Processing

Decoct in a continuous stream of water until a concentrated decoction is obtained; strain out the residue and simmer further, then add a small amount of white honey to form a paste. Separately, prepare 1 liang of calamine (the “Three Yellows” calcined, ground into a fine powder, washed with water 5–7 times, and the pure powder retained), 5 li of cinnabar, 5 li of bear bile, 5 li of dragon’s blood, 1 fen of frankincense, 1 fen of myrrh,1 fen of genuine pearl, 1 fen of amber, 1 fen of ox bile, 1 fen of borneol, 1 fen of musk, 3 fen of borax, 1 qian of Dendrobium (calcined with honey), 1 qian 5 fen of Coptis chinensis, and 1 fen of white cloves. Grind all ingredients into a fine powder, mix thoroughly into the paste, transfer to a jar, and seal the opening.

Instructions for Use

Each time, use the tip of a silver hairpin to pick up a small amount of the medicine and apply it to both inner corners of the eyes, three times a day.
