Drug Formulation

4 liang of salt, 4 liang of alum, 4 liang of sodium carbonate, 4 liang of soapstone alum, 4 liang of mercury, and 4 qian of arsenic.

Processing

Grind all ingredients together until no granules remain visible. Place the mixture in a jar and heat over low flame until a crust forms. Pack it tightly with a wooden stick. Once cooled and set, invert the jar onto a bowl. Place a basin of water and a brick beneath the bowl’s base. Set the bowl and jar on the brick, then add water until it reaches 8 fen from the bottom of the bowl. Separate the setup with a large brick, construct a hundred-hole furnace, and apply heat. Monitor the fire from both top and bottom; as soon as the flame reaches the bottom, remove the heat. Once cooled and set, retrieve the medicine and seal it securely.

Instructions for Use

To treat the infection, dip a wick in a small amount of rice vinegar and dab the affected area. For minor infections, apply 2–3 dabs; once 1–2 white blisters form, the infection will subside. For larger infections, apply a few more dabs or repeat the process several times—the infection will invariably clear up. In cases of stubborn, hidden toxins, take one pill of Qiming Dan and apply the treatment; it will invariably be effective.
