Drug Formulation

Cinnabar 1 liang (in chunks), ox gallbladder 1 fen, iron powder half a liang, rhinoceros horn half a liang (chopped), cloves half a liang, Hu Tong tears half a liang, Wei Rui half a liang, musk 1 fen, silver foil 50 pieces, earthworms half a liang, areca nut half a liang, oyster shell half a liang, Sophora flavescens half a liang,Gypsum half liang, Xilin paper half liang, licorice (roasted) half liang, white mung beans half liang (stir-fried over low heat), lead white half liang, Ophiopogon tuber half liang (core removed), Anemarrhena rhizome half liang, Coptis and Coptis rhizome 1 liang, gold foil 150 pieces, raw Trichosanthes root 1 liang (pounded and ground to a fine powder).

Processing

Grind all the above herbs—except for the Trichosanthes root, which is to be pounded separately—into a fine powder. Mix thoroughly with refined honey, gold leaf, and the raw Trichosanthes root to form pills the size of a pea.

Indicated for thirst associated with Sanjiao disorders, characterized by uncontrollable thirst, wrinkled and cracked tongue, yellow and emaciated physique, diminished vitality, frequent urination, and distension in the abdomen and flanks.

Instructions for Use

Take 10 pills per dose on an empty stomach, along with 3 pieces of gold foil and 3 pieces of silver foil (crushed and ground), washed down with rice water. Gradually increase the dose to 20 pills, taking one dose after meals and another before bedtime.For mild cases, symptoms will subside on the same day; for severe cases, symptoms will subside within 3 days. After 10 days, take only one dose on an empty stomach and one dose after nightfall, using 1 sheet each of gold and silver foil; after one month, take 50 pills with warm water. When preparing the medicine, from February to September, use raw Trichosanthes root; after September, it is also acceptable to mix the ingredients with refined honey to form pills.

Avoid salty, sour, roasted, or fried foods, as well as fish and alcohol.
