Drug Formulation

3 liang of Prepared Rehmannia, 3 liang of Atractylodes macrocephala, 3 liang of Ligusticum chuanxiong, 3 liang of Paeonia lactiflora, 3 liang of Magnolia officinalis, 3 liang of Cyperus rotundus, 3 liang of Glycyrrhiza uralensis, 2 liang of Panax ginseng, 2 liang of Amomum villosum, 4 liang of Haisinsha.

Processing

Mix all the above herbs together until well blended. Take one black-boned rooster weighing approximately 2–3 jin; do not submerge it in water. Remove all feathers, as well as the internal organs, head, wings, and feet. Place 1 fen of the herbal mixture into the rooster’s abdomen, and place the remaining herbs along with the rooster into a copper pot. Add 5 bowls of fine wine and 2 zhong of water,simmer over alternating high and low heat until the liquid has evaporated. Remove the chicken, debone it, and sun-dry the lean meat together with the herbs. Grind into a fine powder, then form into pills the size of a Paulownia seed using glutinous rice mixed with wine paste.
