Drug Formulation

Peach Blossom Pollen: 5 qian; Plum Blossom Pollen (quantity of these two ingredients is not specified; air-dry): 1 liang 6 qian 2 fen; Pangolin Scale (select those with four legs; stir-fried in wine): 1 liang;Cinnabar (water-washed) 1 liang, Placenta (washed with water, red tendons removed, baked dry and ground into powder) 1 set, Skull Cap 1 set (washed with a decoction of soapberry, processed with ghee and ground into powder; total weight of all four parts: 1 qian 7 fen), Deer Antler (dehaired, processed with ghee; total weight of all three parts: 1 liang 2 qian), Ginseng (officially graded) 1 liang.

Grind each of the above ingredients into a fine powder.

Instructions for Use

Before the smallpox rash appears, use 1 liang of cinnabar as the principal ingredient; mix it evenly with 2 qian of plum blossoms and 3 qian of peach blossoms. Take 0.5 fen, 0.3 fen, or 0.25 fen per dose. Administer the mixture with food after forcing it down with 2 cups of wine and a rooster; then suspend the patient upside down, draw blood, and take them into the woods to consume the aforementioned medicine mixed with hot wine.If the rash fails to erupt at the onset, use 1 liang of plum blossoms as the principal herb, add 1 qian of peach blossoms and 0.5 fen of parietal bone; for deficiency of qi and blood with a grayish-white complexion, use 1 liang of placenta as the principal herb, add 1 qian of parietal bone, 1 qian and 0.5 fen of deer antler, 1 qian of plum blossoms, and 1 qian or 0.8 fen of peach blossoms;If the penis is black, sunken, and fails to erect, use 1 liang of Pangolin Scale as the principal herb, add 1 qian of Peach Blossom, 8 fen of Plum Blossom, 7 fen of Skull Cap, and 5 fen of Musk; for deficiency of qi and blood resulting in inability to achieve erection, use 1 liang of Deer Antler as the principal herb, add 2 qian of Placenta, 1 qian of Peach Blossom, 8 fen of Plum Blossom, 7 fen of Skull Cap, 5 fen of Musk, and 1 qian of Ginseng;For deficiency of qi and blood preventing the contraction of the wound, use 1 liang of deer antler as the principal herb, with 5 fen of parietal bone, 7 fen of peach blossom, and 9 fen of plum blossom; after the wound has healed, if the scar is white and there is deficiency of qi and blood, use 1 liang of ginseng as the principal herb, add 2 qian of placenta, 1 qian of deer antler, and 1 qian 5 fen of plum blossom; all of the above should be taken according to the dosage instructions in the first entry.
