Drug Formulation

1 jin of Guang Powder (ground separately), 2 liang of raw Phytolacca powder, 2 liang of Dipsacus root, 1 liang of Angelica sinensis (washed and roasted), 1 liang of red peony root, 1 liang of white peony root, 2 liang of willow twigs, half a liang of fragrant white gardenia, and half a liang of Sichuan lovage.

Processing

Coarsely chop the ingredients into pieces the size of sesame seeds. Use 1 jin of clear sesame oil. Place the herbs in an iron pot or porcelain vessel and simmer over alternating high and low heat until the mixture turns black. Then remove the herbal residue, retain the clear oil, and return it to the heat to simmer.Next, add talcum powder and stir thoroughly with a willow twig until well blended with the oil. Test by dripping a small amount into water; it should not disperse. Pour into fresh water to allow it to settle and solidify, then remove and test for dryness with a cotton swab. Return to the pot and simmer over alternating low and high heat, melting in half liang of beeswax,3 qian of ground frankincense, and stir thoroughly with a willow twig. Pour into fresh water, then remove and test for dryness before transferring to a porcelain container for storage.
