Processing

Take 30 jin of deer antlers and 30 dan of water from the East-Flowing River. Use two cast-iron pots from the kitchen. Cut the antlers off at the base near the deer’s forehead. Coat the cut surfaces with cinnabar and salt mud to seal them, ensuring no air penetrates. Steam them in a steamer for one cooking cycle. Use a horse-tail brush dipped in hot water to thoroughly remove blood spines, dust, and grime from the antlers.cut the deer antlers into sections 3–4 cun long. Separately, mix the 14 aforementioned medicinal ingredients thoroughly. First, lay a layer of antler in the pot, then a layer of the mixture on top; repeat this process to form three even layers. Pour river water into the pot, maintaining a water level 3 cun above the antlers at all times. Simmer slowly over smokeless charcoal, keeping the liquid at a gentle simmer—do not allow it to boil vigorously. In a separate pot, boil river water to make broth, also taking care not to let it boil vigorously. If the water level in the medicinal pot drops slightly, replenish it with hot broth from the other pot, maintaining the 3-cun level. Then, add river water to the boiled broth and continue topping it off until midnight. Turn off the heat and let it cool. Remove the deer antlers and strain the liquid through raw silk; discard the medicinal residue.Separately, simmer the medicinal liquid again using the previous method without adding any water. The decoction is ready when it forms a paste that solidifies and does not disperse when dropped into water.
