Drug Formulation
Astragalus (wash thoroughly, cut into one-cun lengths, pound to crack, split into strands, moisten thoroughly with salted water, place in a bowl, and bake dry over a pot of ginger soup for one cooking period; then grind into a fine powder with the other herbs) 1 liang,Ginseng (wash, remove the root stalk, slice thinly, dry in an oven, then pound) 2 liang, Angelica sinensis (wash in warm water, slice thinly, dry in an oven) 2 liang, Magnolia officinalis (remove coarse bark, slice, soak in ginger juice overnight, boil until tender, then dry in an oven; do not use Cinnamomum-processed Magnolia) 1 liang,Platycodon (wash thoroughly, remove top and bottom ends, slice thinly, and dry in an oven) 1 liang, Cinnamon Bark (grind separately; do not expose to fire) 1 liang, Ligusticum (wash thoroughly, slice, and dry in an oven) 1 liang, Saposhnikovia (wash thoroughly, slice, and dry in an oven) 1 liang, Licorice (use raw), Angelica dahurica 1 liang.

Processing
For these 10 ingredients, select the finest quality; all must be thoroughly cleaned and sun-dried or oven-dried until extremely dry to meet requirements. Except for Cinnamon Bark, grind all other ingredients together into a fine powder, then add the Cinnamon Bark and mix evenly.

Instructions for Use
Start with 3 qian per dose and gradually increase to 5–6 qian. Mix with hot wine and take several doses both day and night; the more, the better. Continue taking the medicine until the sores have healed; continuing treatment beyond this point is even better, as it restores prior damage and prevents future complications.For those who do not drink alcohol, mix the decoction with a strong decoction of Wood Fragrance (Mu Xiang) to take it; however, this is not as effective as the potency of alcohol. Alternatively, those who drink only sparingly may occasionally use alcohol to take the medicine, followed by a decoction of Wood Fragrance to counteract the alcohol’s effects; the efficacy should be no less than that of alcohol alone. For unformed sores, this formula will quickly disperse them; for formed sores, it will quickly cause them to rupture, allowing the pus to drain naturally without the need to squeeze it out, and the necrotic tissue will fall away on its own.Generally, take this formula as soon as you first notice symptoms of a boil or abscess, doubling the dosage and taking it several times; if you take enough to become intoxicated, the effect will be even faster.
