Drug Formulation

Frankincense 5 qian, realgar 5 qian, turmeric 5 qian, mercuric oxide 5 qian, myrrh 5 qian, catechu 5 qian, asafoetida 5 qian, aloe 5 qian, strychnos 5 qian, castor beans 3 liang, centipedes 7 (baked dry), Sichuan pangolin scales 1 liang (stir-fried with earth), and herb ash 1 liang 5 qian.

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Boil 1 jin of colophony in water, strain through a cloth to remove impurities, bury it in soil for 7 days, and then pound the mixture together over 10,000 times. Keep the hammer head coated with sesame oil throughout the process until a smooth, uniform ointment is formed. Transfer it to a jar and seal with wax.

Instructions for Use

Adults should use 3 qian per application; children should use half that amount. Steam the ointment until melted, then spread it on a piece of silk. Apply according to the size of the affected area. If blisters form after application, remove the patch for 2–3 days before reapplying. With prolonged use, the mass will dissolve, and pus and blood will be expelled in the stool.
