Processing
Cut the ingredients into coarse pieces and soak them in 12 jin of pure sesame oil. The soaking ratios are 5:1 in spring, 3:1 in summer, 7:1 in fall, and 10:1 in winter. Decoct the mixture until dry, strain out the residue, and pour the liquid into a porcelain vessel. Separately, melt rosin in a oil pot; then add the oil-soaked herbs. Use approximately 4 liang of oil for every 2 jin of rosin. Test the consistency until it is just right, then strain it into a water jar and have someone pull and stretch the mixture. When the color resembles gold, the ointment is ready. One batch yields 17 jin, enough to make a large plaster.
