Chinese Name : 腊鼠膏

Drug Formulation

1 waxed rat (a large one, with fur intact), half a liang of lead丹 (ground), half a liang of amber (ground), 1 liang of frankincense (ground), 1 liang of aloe (ground), 1 liang of snail shell, 1 liang of centipede shell, and 1 liang of clam shell.

Processing

Grind all ingredients except the rat into a fine powder. Place the powder, 1 jin of clear oil, 4 liang each of beeswax, sheep fat (from the 12th lunar month), and lard, along with the rat, into a silver or stone vessel. Simmer until thickened, then strain out the residue. Next, add 1 fen each of musk and ground pearl, and mix thoroughly. Transfer the mixture to a porcelain jar, seal it tightly, and submerge it in a well for 14 days. If immediate use is required, submerge it for only a short while before retrieving it.
