Drug Formulation

20 whole scorpions (raw), ox gallbladder-infused Pinellia (prepared in the 12th lunar month using the gallbladder of a fat, healthy, disease-free bull; place Pinellia inside, suspend in a high place for 49 days, then remove, sun-dry, and store for use) 7 qian, Fangfeng 5 qian, White Aconite 5 qian, Dried Ginger 3 qian, Sichuan Aconite 5 qian, Gastrodia 5 qian,5 qian of Chuanxiong, 5 qian of Bai Zhi, 5 qian of Ren Shen, 3 qian of Niu Huang, 1 liang of Chen Sha, 2 qian of Musk, 3 qian of Camphor, 5 qian of Bo He, 5 qian of Mu Xiang, 5 qian of Bai Zhu, and 20 raw Bai Jiang Can (used raw; one formula adds 5 qian of Tian Zhu Huang).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Use 1 jin of Ephedra, half a jin of licorice, and 2 liang of honey to boil into a paste, adjusting the consistency to be neither too thin nor too thick. Mix the powdered herbs evenly with the paste to form pills, then coat them with gold leaf.

Instructions for Use

For acute convulsions, characterized by twitching of the hands and feet, dissolve the pill in a decoction of ground gold and silver; for chronic convulsions, characterized by uncontrollable limbs, drowsiness as if asleep, and loss of consciousness, dissolve the pill in light ginger decoction. The dosage should be adjusted according to the child’s age, constitution, and condition—half a fen, 1 fen, 2 fen, or 3 fen—as deemed appropriate. For adults suffering from tetanus or various wind disorders, take with warm wine.
