Modified Decoction for Treating Malaria,Malaria due to liver yin deficiency. Malaria attacks occur every other day; at dusk, chills are mild and fever is severe. Attacks occurring during the Shen and You hours are followed by a slight sweat and resolution of fever around the Yin and Mao hours. The patient is emaciated, experiences dizziness and vertigo, has aching joints, stiff tendons and muscles, lower back pain, difficult urination, and distension in the lower abdomen. The tongue is purple and red, or even as red as rouge.
