Drug Formulation

5 fen of toad venom, 5 fen of cinnabar, 5 fen of Sichuan aconite, 5 fen of wild aconite, and 1 straight-bodied silkworm.

Processing

Grind each of the above ingredients into a fine powder and mix evenly. Place 1 liang 5 qian of rock sulfur in a bowl and simmer over low heat until melted. Add the toad venom powder mixture and stir well. Remove from heat, then add 2 fen of Dangmenzi musk and 1 fen of borneol, stirring until uniform. Immediately pour into a damp porcelain dish, swirl quickly to form a sheet, allow to cool, and store in a porcelain jar.

Instructions for Use

To use, take a piece the size of a sweet melon seed—pointed at the top and flat at the bottom. First, rub the moxibustion site with red date pulp, then apply the medicine to it. Light it with a wick from an oil lamp and perform 5, 7, or 9 moxa cones. Upon completion, immediately drink half a wine cup of rice vinegar, then apply a small medicated plaster. Once a small amount of yellow fluid oozes out, the toxin will dissipate.For pain caused by wind-dampness, use chopsticks to press into the crevice between the bones at the site of soreness, then moxibustion at the marked spot; for leg swelling or knee ailments, perform moxibustion at the “Ghost’s Eye” acupoint; for sores caused by carrying heavy loads on the shoulders, perform one moxa cone at each swollen area.
