Commentary
Goji berries (Gou-qi-zi) function as the chief herb. Sweet-neutral in property, it travels through the Liver, Kidney meridians, and works to nourish the liver and kidney, brighten the eyes. Cassia seeds (Jue-ming-zi) take the deputy (minister) role; slightly cold and sweet, bitter, salty in character, it travels through the Liver, Kidney, Large Intestine meridians to clear liver heat, brighten the eyes and moisten the intestines. Sand garden seeds (Sha-yuan-zi) add further support, working to tonify the kidney, secure essence and brighten the eyes. Without a separate harmonizing herb, the herbal tea formula balance is achieved through the mutual tempering of its active ingredients. Collectively, the combination calm the liver, nourish the kidneys, lower blood lipids, addressing the dyslipidemia pattern.
