For hair loss and failure of hair regrowth, take a handful of paulownia leaves and 3 sheng (approximately 607 grams) of hemp seeds. Boil them in rice water for five to six boils, then strain out the dregs. Wash the hair with this preparation daily to promote hair growth.
This formula originates from Jin Dynasty’s Emergency Formulas to Keep at Hand (abbreviated as Zhou Hou Fang). At that time, one sheng was approximately equivalent to 202.3 grams in modern measurements. The so-called “five boilings” in the formula refers to the process of boiling the liquid once, allowing it to cool, then boiling it again, cooling it again, and repeating this process five times.
