Aconite Porridge,For critically ill patients with deficient kidney yang and weakened vital fire, presenting with aversion to cold, cold limbs, impotence, frequent urination, deficient spleen yang, cold pain in the epigastrium and abdomen, loose stools, cold dysentery, or cold extremities and spontaneous cold sweats caused by profuse sweating, severe vomiting, or severe diarrhea; accompanied by a bland taste in the mouth without thirst, a white tongue coating, and a faint, fine, and weak pulse, indicating severe yang deficiency.

Drug Formulation

3–5 g of processed Aconite, 1–3 g of dried ginger, 30–60 g of japonica rice, 2 scallion whites, and a small amount of brown sugar.

Instructions for Use

First, cook glutinous rice into porridge. Once the porridge comes to a boil, add the powdered herbs, scallion whites, and brown sugar, and continue cooking until it becomes a thin porridge. Alternatively, decoct Aconite and dried ginger to extract the liquid; after straining out the residue, add rice, scallions, and sugar to cook into porridge. Take twice daily while warm; a typical treatment course lasts 3–5 days.

Note

Aconite is mildly toxic; when preparing porridge, processed aconite should be used, and it is advisable to start with a small dose. Patients with a pattern of excess heat should not consume this remedy.
