Drug Formulation

1 liang of Angelica sinensis, 1 liang of Dipsacus asper, 1 liang of Dipsacus asper (bone-mending herb), 1 liang of Cinnamomum cassia (with coarse bark removed), 1 liang of Aconite root, 1 liang of Eupatorium fortunei, 1 liang of Paeonia lactiflora, 1 liang of Bletilla striata, 1 liang of Achyranthes bidentata, 1 liang of Notopterygium incisum, 1 liang of Ligusticum chuanxiong, 1 liang of Aquilaria agallocha,1 liang of amber, 1 liang of raw dried rehmannia, 1 liang of white silkworm pupae, 1 liang of white aconite, half a liang of agarwood, half a liang of cloves, 2 large trichosanthes fruits, 1 liang of black snake meat, 1 liang of white lian, 1 liang of white angelica, 1 liang of scrophularia, 3 fen of apricot kernels, and 3 fen of peach kernels.

Processing

Finely chop the above ingredients, add 4 jin of sesame oil, 1.5 jin of lard, and 3 liang of camel fat. Simmer over alternating high and low heat for three days, then strain out the herbs. Add 3 liang of frankincense and 6 liang of pine resin, and simmer for another day. Filter out the coarse residue using raw silk.Next, use a large cast-iron pot holding 5 dou. Sift 3 jin of lead丹 through a fine sieve and roast it until it turns purple. Gradually add the medicinal oil from the previous step and simmer, stirring with a willow twig until the mixture turns purple; immediately remove from heat. Drip a small amount of the medicinal oil into a bowl of water; when it forms beads, it is ready. Store tightly in a porcelain or stone container.
