Drug Formulation

Coptis (with stalks removed) 1.5 liang, Poria cocos 0.5 liang, White Peony Root 0.5 liang, Donkey-hide Gelatin 0.5 liang (crushed with a pestle, stir-fried over low heat until white and pearl-like, then ground separately into a fine powder) 0.5 liang.

Processing

Grind the ingredients into a fine powder; add an appropriate amount of rice vinegar to achieve the desired consistency for the donkey-hide gelatin; mix thoroughly; pound in a mortar 10,000 times; then, with the help of several people, shape into pills the size of mung beans.

For acute dysentery with severe urgency, pus and blood in the stool, and unbearable abdominal pain.

Instructions for Use

Begin each dose with 20 pills and increase to a maximum of 50 pills; take before meals with rice water, 2–3 times daily. Adjust the dosage based on the patient’s response; if no improvement is observed, increase the dose. Prepare another batch of pills the size of a millet seed for administration to children.
