Decoction of Cinnamon Twig without Peony, with Ephedra, Asarum, and Aconite,A swelling in the Qi division, as large as a tray, with edges resembling a spinning cup, caused by fluid retention. Due to deficiency of Heart and Kidney Yang, external invasion by wind-cold, and internal retention of fluid, presenting with headache, body pain, aversion to cold without sweating, cold hands and feet, firm fullness beneath the heart, abdominal distension, and intestinal rumbling with successive sounds; may also present with flatulence or urinary incontinence. The pulse is deep, slow, fine,涩, and weak.

Drug Formulation

3 liang of Cinnamomum twig, 3 liang of fresh ginger, 2 liang of licorice, 12 jujubes, 2 liang of ephedra, 2 liang of Asarum, 1 piece of aconite root (roasted).

Benefits

A swelling in the Qi division, as large as a tray, with edges resembling a spinning cup, caused by fluid retention. Due to deficiency of Heart and Kidney Yang, external invasion by wind-cold, and internal retention of fluid, presenting with headache, body pain, aversion to cold without sweating, cold hands and feet, firm fullness beneath the heart, abdominal distension, and intestinal rumbling with successive sounds; may also present with flatulence or urinary incontinence. The pulse is deep, slow, fine,涩, and weak.

Instructions for Use

Boil Ephedra in 7 sheng of water, skim off the foam, add the remaining herbs, and boil until reduced to 2 sheng. Divide into 3 doses and take warm. Sweating should follow, accompanied by a sensation as if insects were crawling under the skin; the condition will then be cured.

Note

Avoid seaweed, Chinese cabbage, raw scallions, pork, cold water, and raw vegetables.
