Drug Formulation

1 liang of sulfur; 1 liang of mercury (combine these two ingredients to form “sha zi”); 1 liang of croton seed (remove the skin and core, retain the oil; combine with “sha zi” and grind together); half a liang of calcined stone (crush and grind finely); half a liang of realgar (ground).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder and mix with good vinegar until the consistency is right. First, dig a pit in the ground about the size of a teacup and four fingers deep. Clean the pit, then heat it until it glows red; remove the ashes and embers. Line the pit with vinegar-soaked paper, spread the medicine inside, cover with a bowl, and bake overnight. Remove it, let it dry, then roll it into pills the size of small beans using a wheat-flour paste.

Take 2–3 pills per dose, washed down with a decoction of fresh ginger and jujubes.
