Processing
First, finely chop the 21 ingredients. Soak them in 3 bowls of water in a copper vessel for 3 days. Filter out the dregs using a cloth. Next, calcine the stone crab over low heat until it turns purple, then place it in the medicinal decoction. Dip it in and out until it cools, then remove and grind it into a fine powder. Skim off the clear liquid from the decoction, collect the floating liquid in a clean vessel, and place it in a quiet room without disturbing it. Cover the vessel to prevent dust and dirt from entering.Wait until it has settled, then pour off the medicinal liquid. Sun-dry the crab powder for later use. Combine with the following ingredients: Stone Crab 5 qian, Pizi 5 qian, Bear Bile 2 qian, Bile Alum 2 qian, Borax 2 qian, Cinnabar 1 qian, Silver Cinnabar 1 qian, Processed Ruiren 1 qian, Mercury Oxide 1 qian, Sichuan Pepper 0.5 fen, Hu Huanglian 0.5 fen, Yeming Sand 0.5 fen,ox gall 5 fen, pearl 5 fen, eagle’s feather 5 fen, dragon’s blood 2 fen, croton seed powder 2 fen, gold ink 2 fen. Grind each ingredient according to the prescribed method until the mixture is extremely fine and produces no sound; store it in a porcelain jar for future use. This preparation is called “Dan Tou.” Adjust the dosage according to the severity of the condition when applying it to the eyes. For mild cases: 5 fen of Dan Tou, 1 fen of large borneol, 3 li of musk, and 1 qian of Pizi. Grind all ingredients together until extremely fine.
Benefits
For all chronic corneal opacities.
Instructions for Use
Specifically treats all sudden, wind-heat-induced redness, ulceration, and tightness of the cornea, accompanied by tearing in the wind, photophobia, and sensitivity to light; whether recurring every six months or once a year, with unpredictable remissions and relapses—all should be treated with the “Mild Formula.” Do not use strong medications lightly; using heavy medication for a mild condition will cause harm. Take an internally administered formula tailored to the specific condition as an adjunct. “Moderate Formula”: Dan Tou 6 fen, Borneol 1 fen, Musk 3 li, Pizi 1 qian. This formula specifically treats chronic, intractable conditions where a thin opacity inevitably forms over the cornea, or where red veins or blood vessels are present; apply this milder formula 3–5 times daily. If improvement is observed, reduce application to twice daily; discontinue once fully healed.Severe Formula: 7 fen of Cinnabar, 1 fen of Borneol, 3 li of Musk, and 1 qian of Pizi. This formula treats severe eye conditions, such as a veil-like opacity obscuring the vision or redness accompanied by pain and dryness. Apply this formula 3–4 times daily; as the condition gradually improves, discontinue use and reduce the frequency of application. Take the corresponding herbal formula from this chapter internally to complete the cure. For the Most Severe Cases: 9 fen of Cinnabar, 1 fen of Borneol, 3 li of Musk, and 1 qian of Pazi. This formula specifically treats severe eye conditions where a thick membrane obscures the pupil, or where a silvery white opacity causes blindness and loss of vision. Apply this medication 5 times daily, gradually reducing the frequency as the condition improves.
