Place the ingredients in an unglazed vessel (a sandware vessel is especially suitable). Add 1 large bowl of well water and simmer until reduced to half a bowl. Strain through cotton gauze. Then, add half a porcelain bowl of water to the residue and simmer to yield 1 cup. Combine this with the previously strained liquid and simmer together.Pour the liquid into a new bowl and simmer until it reaches the consistency of thick porridge. Transfer it to a small porcelain or horn container. Take one piece each of lapis lazuli and phoenix sand (each about the size of two soybeans; sift the phoenix sand and dry it thoroughly; do not heat the lapis lazuli), grind them together, then add borneol (as much as desired) and a small amount of musk. Mix all four ingredients into the ointment and stir until uniform.Apply a dot about the size of a millet grain to the inner corner of the eye, spread it evenly with your finger, tilt your head back, and wait until the ointment feels slightly astringent. Then, dip a soft piece of silk in boiling salt water and gently wash the area.
