Drug Formulation
Five-Branch Ointment (peach branches, willow branches, locust branches, and mulberry branches—all tender branches, 5 sheng each; elm bark, 5 sheng; lycium bark, 5 sheng; simmer in 1 dan of running water until reduced to 5 fen; strain out the residue; add 4 liang of ground Angelica sinensis; simmer over low heat until it forms a paste that forms beads when a drop of water is added; set aside for use), purified asphalt, 1 jin,pine resin (purified) half a jin, frankincense 1 liang (ground separately), myrrh 1 liang (ground separately), mercuric oxide 2 qian (ground separately), copper carbonate 2 liang (ground separately), beeswax 2 liang, dragon’s blood 2 qian (ground separately), musk 1 qian (ground separately), benzoin 5 qian, realgar 1 liang (floated in water and ground to a fine powder).

Processing
Take 2 liang each of Chuanxiong, Rhubarb, Safflower, and White Angelica Root; simmer in sesame oil until blackened, then strain out the residue. Use 4 liang of oil in spring and summer, and 6 liang in autumn and winter. Simmer according to the method until a drop of water does not disperse; then add the asphalt, rosin, and beeswax and melt them;add 2 liang of Wuzhi Ointment and stir with a locust branch over 100 times; add frankincense, myrrh, dragon’s blood, mercuric oxide, benzoin, and orpiment, and stir another 100 times; add musk and copper carbonate, and stir another 100 times. Stop when a drop of the mixture floats on the water’s surface like a green lotus leaf. Stir vigorously over 200 times, then let it steep for 100 days before removing and storing.

Instructions for Use
To apply to toxic sores, boil a decoction of locust tree branches and green onion whites, wash the affected area with it, then apply the paste—mixed with saliva and spread on silk—changing it every 3–5 days.
