Drug Formulation
1–2 jin of purified rosin (place in a large copper pot, boil in clean water until melted; once it has melted and floats to the surface, use a bamboo spatula to slowly skim off the hot water, then quickly pour into a basin of cold water; after a short while, pull it out while still hot, shaping it like rice candy; if it is too hot to handle, dip it into ice-cold water briefly before removing;if it has cooled and is difficult to pull apart, return it to a pot of clean water and melt it again; pull it apart as before. Repeat this process at least 5 times, up to 7 times—the more times you pull it apart, the better the result.Use 3–4 jin of fresh whole scallions with their roots attached. Wash them and let them dry slightly, then pound them into a paste to extract the juice; discard the pulp. Slowly simmer the rosin in the scallion juice until it is completely dried out. Pour cold water over it again, then shape it into cakes as desired. The longer it ages, the better it becomes (each cake weighs 2 liang). Add 7 qian of Ming realgar, 5 qian of Fei Dongdan, 2 qian of roasted Phellodendron bark,2 qian of Western Indigo (water-floated), 2 qian of Unnamed Herb (roasted, ground extremely fine), 5 fen of Large Camphor (ground separately), 3 qian of Ren Zhong Bai (calcined), 1 qian 5 fen of Shangguan Powder (roasted), 5 fen of Pure Mercury Oxide (roasted), 5 fen of Processed Copper Green, 1 qian of Dried White Alum, 2 qian of Child’s Tea, and 5 qian of Genuine Mung Bean Powder (sun-dried, mixed evenly).
