4 liang of Coptis rhizome (dehaired), 2 liang of Gentiana root, 1.5 liang of Sophora root, and 1 liang of Angelica root (washed).

Processing

Soak the ingredients in 4 bowls of water overnight. Place them in a pot and simmer over low heat until reduced to half a bowl. Strain out the residue, then transfer the liquid to a silver vessel and simmer until thickened. While still on the heat, add a small amount each of borax, musk, and camphor—all of the highest quality.
