Phellodendron bark: 4 jin (remove coarse bark; clean. Soak 1 jin in fine wine, 1 jin in rice-washing water, and 1 jin in honey water).

Source

From *The Mystic Pearls of Chishui*, Volume 1.

Processing

Soak all ingredients in porcelain vessels; the liquid should cover the ingredients by two fingers’ width. Soak for 7 days in winter, 3 days in summer, and 5 days in spring and fall. Strain, sun-dry, and reserve the remaining liquid for later use;Next, cut 1 jin of Phellodendron bark into 5-cun-long pieces. Place them in a porcelain bowl with half a jin of pure ghee. First, bring water to a rolling boil in a copper pot; then place the bowl with the ghee into the water to melt it. Stir-fry the Phellodendron bark over low heat until warm. Using a palm-fiber brush dipped in ghee, slowly brush the mixture onto the bark while simultaneously roasting it, ensuring thorough penetration on all sides,Take great care not to let it turn black. Once roasting is complete, place it on a cool surface and cover it with the porcelain bowl for 2 days to remove the heat toxicity. Grind both the prepared Phellodendron and the previous mixture into a fine powder, then mix with the reserved original juice to form pills; if the juice is insufficient, add honey wine and mix thoroughly to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed.
