Chinese Name : 栀子栝楼汤

Drug Formulation

5 qian of Gardenia (remove the shell, take the kernel, soak in licorice water overnight, remove, sun-dry, pound, sift, and grind into a powder); 7 qian of Trichosanthes root (select one with a circumference of 3 wei, peel, pound into a paste, mix with water to form a paste, then sun-dry);less than half a he of fragrant fermented soybeans (prepared according to standard methods), less than half a sheng of bamboo leaves (washed in east-flowing water, chopped), 1 liang 1 qian of kudzu root (moistened thoroughly with autumn dew, air-dried in the shade, and coarsely chopped),Poria (chopped, coarse skin removed, sliced; soaked in east-flowing water overnight, then removed; combined with equal parts Cimicifuga and Ephedra, moistened with water, mixed, and steamed for one incense stick’s duration without allowing steam to escape; remove Cimicifuga and Ephedra, then sun-dried) 9 qian,Talc 1 liang (select pure white talc; scrape clean with a bamboo knife; grind into a fine powder; for every 1 liang, boil with 2 liang of peony bark for 3 incense sticks’ worth of time; remove the peony bark; rinse with east-flowing water; sun-dry), peony bark (remove the pith with a copper knife; coarsely chop; combine with peach kernels in equal parts; moisten with wine; steam and sun-dry three times; remove the peach kernels) 7 qian,Anemarrhena rhizome (coarsely chopped on a locust wood cutting board, then pounded to a paste in a dry wooden mortar) 5 qian; Fresh ginger (sliced) 7 qian.

Instructions for Use

Boil the above ingredients in 3 sheng and 5 he of water until reduced to 1.5 sheng; strain out the residue and divide the decoction into three doses to be taken warm.
