Drug Formulation

1 sheep spine, 1 liang of Aconite (roasted until cracked, with skin and pith removed), 1 liang of Areca nut (chopped), 1 liang of Astragalus (honey-fried, chopped),1 liang of Zhi Ke (pulp removed, fried with wheat bran), half a liang of Agarwood (chopped), half a liang of Sichuan Pepper (seeds and stems removed, fried until sweating), half a liang of Cinnamon Bark (coarse bark removed), and half a liang of Frankincense.

Processing

Of these nine ingredients, grind eight into a fine powder; sift it with 2 liang of realgar. Combine 1 sheng each of medicinal wine and rice vinegar with sheep’s spine bones in a silver vessel, and simmer over alternating high and low heat until the wine and vinegar are completely reduced. Dry in an oven, then grind into a fine powder. Separately, make a paste with wine and flour, mix it with the powder of the eight medicinal ingredients mentioned above, and form into pills the size of a paulownia seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 20–30 pills per dose on an empty stomach; at bedtime, swallow them with warm wine or salted broth.
