For putrefaction of the throat where necrotic tissue has not yet been cleared and pus has not yet been completely drained.
Instructions for Use
First, mix the powdered soda ash and alum thoroughly, place them in an iron pot, and pound them until the mixture fills three small jars. Then, divide the mercury among the jars. Cover each jar with a large bowl; seal the gaps around the rim with thick strands of cotton-bark paper soaked in starch water, pressing them tightly against the seams. Cover the top with sand and mud,ensuring no gas escapes. Place a small scale weight on the bottom of the bowl. Then heat over a charcoal fire for the duration of three sticks of incense, starting gently and gradually increasing the heat; do not let the fire burn too fiercely, lest green smoke rise, which would render the remedy ineffective.
