Formulas Name : Hu Huanglian Decoction

Chinese Name : 胡黄连饮

Drug Formulation

Hu Huanglian, Huangyaozi, Ginseng, Licorice (roasted), White Atractylodes (stir-fried), Qin Jiao, and Chai Hu—each in equal parts.

Benefits

Heat due to malnutrition, irregular diarrhea, fluctuating appetite, sallow complexion with dark bone marrow, and progressive wasting.

Instructions for Use

Coarsely crush the ingredients. Take 2 qian per dose; boil with 1 zhan of water, 7 cun each of tender peach and willow branches, and a small amount of black plum, until reduced to 8 fen. Strain and divide into two portions. Take one portion after meals and one before bedtime. If the urine is red, the treatment is effective; if the stool is clear, discontinue the medicine; when the stool is formed and appetite improves, resume treatment. Generally suitable for children around 15 years of age.
