Drug Formulation

10 liang of red hematite, 3 sheng of yellow cow’s milk, 1 jin of frankincense (translucent), 1 jin of white rock sugar honey, 3 liang of licorice (powdered), and 3 dou 5 sheng of white glutinous rice (cooked in five batches until done).

Processing

First, grind the red cinnabar into a fine powder, place it in a bag lined with raw silk, and store it in a clean basin of sweet water for half a day. Knead and swirl the mixture by hand in the water until it settles; then skim the clear liquid into a paper box, drain it thoroughly, and place 5 liang of the finest portion into a silver box. For the first step, on the seventh day, wash 7 sheng of rice as if cooking rice, place the medicine inside, and cook it until the rice is done. In the middle of the night, remove the lid of the box,and leave it exposed to the stars for one night; for the second time, on the day of the full moon, cook it according to the previous method, remove the lid, and leave it exposed to the night dew and moonlight for one night; for the third time, on the morning of the 24th, cook it according to the previous method, remove the lid, and expose it to the midday sun—ensuring it absorbs sufficient energy from the sun, moon, and stars;For the fourth time, first pour 3 sheng of milk into a large box and heat it over a slow charcoal fire until it simmers like fish eyes. Add frankincense and wait for it to dissolve. Next, add the cinnabar powder from the previous three cookings, stir thoroughly with a willow wood whisk, pour it into a mortar, and grind it finely. Return it to the box, add 7 sheng of rice as before, place the box inside, and cook it until the rice is done;Fifth time: Place 2 jin of honey in the box and heat it over a low fire as before until it simmers like fish eyes. Immediately add the previous mixture, stirring continuously with a willow wood whisk until uniform. Add 3 liang of licorice powder and simmer together until the mixture is slightly moist, then stop heating. Again, use 7 sheng of rice, place the medicine box inside, and steam it until the rice is cooked. Remove the box and soak it in a basin of fresh water for half a day, then take it out and set it aside in a clean place.

Instructions for Use

For the initial dose, choose a “Tian De” day just before dawn. On an empty stomach, burn incense, face east, and perform seven bows. Then, mix one spoonful of the preparation with fine wine and take it.
