Drug Formulation

1 liang of beeswax; 14 seeds of croton (shells removed, cut into 2 pieces, placed inside the beeswax, and simmered until the croton turns black).

Processing

Remove the croton seeds from the above mixture. Take 2 qian of realgar, boil it in water until dry, reducing it to 1 qian in weight. Return it to the beeswax and simmer again. Then add 1–2 qian of powdered cinnabar and continue simmering until the beeswax turns red. Allow to cool, scrape off the mixture, and form into pills as needed.

Instructions for Use

For a child aged 3, take only 10 pills, each the size of a millet seed; for an adult, take 10 pills, each the size of a hemp seed. For white dysentery, take with ginger decoction; for red dysentery, take with licorice decoction. Take on an empty stomach.If the patient’s body feels cold and the pulse is faint, string-like, and fine—all of which are favorable signs—this medicine may be used to stop the diarrhea immediately. If the patient experiences alternating chills and fever, do not stop the diarrhea immediately. First, take 10 pills of the aforementioned medicine, then take Wu Ling San combined with Plantain Seed, decocted together. After three doses, when the urine is clear and the fever has completely subsided, the aforementioned medicine may be used again to stop the diarrhea.
