Drug Formulation

Pine resin 5 liang, realgar (ground separately) 2 liang, orpiment 2 liang, wild kudzu bark 2 liang, pork fat 1 jin, lacquer-head reed root 3 liang, croton seeds 100 (with skin, membrane, and core removed).

Processing

For these 7 ingredients, first decoct the pine resin until all the water has evaporated; then add the remaining herbs and simmer over low heat for three cycles until the ointment is formed. Strain out the residue, then stir in the realgar and orpiment.

For abscesses and boils with necrotic tissue.

Instructions for Use

Apply the ointment to the wound edges and inside the ulcer, changing it 6–7 times daily. Do not allow old and new flesh to mix; therefore, at the beginning of treatment, the condition may become more swollen and red. However, if used as directed, all necrotic tissue will be eliminated—do not overuse it.
