Drug Formulation

1 white-feathered black-boned male chicken, not yet stewed (weighing approximately 1 jin; feed it glutinous rice for 7 days, ensuring it does not eat insects or ants; strangle it with a rope; dry and pluck its feathers; remove and discard the internal organs;place 2 liang each of raw Rehmannia, prepared Rehmannia, Asparagus root, and Ophiopogon root into the chicken’s abdomen; simmer over low heat with 10 bowls of fine wine until thoroughly tender; remove the herbs from the abdomen; dry the chicken, bones and all, over mulberry wood fire; then repeatedly soak and dry it in the same wine and herb mixture used for simmering until the chicken’s flesh and bones are completely desiccated; grind into an extremely fine powder), 5 qian of ginseng,Cistanche (washed with wine) 1 liang, stir-fried Polygonum multiflorum 1 liang, Amomum villosum 1 liang, Angelica sinensis 1 liang, Atractylodes macrocephala 1 liang, Ligusticum chuanxiong 1 liang, Salvia miltiorrhiza 1 liang, Poria cocos 1 liang, licorice (roasted) 1 liang, Eucommia ulmoides (stir-fried in salt water) 1 liang, Cyperus rotundus (processed with vinegar) 4 liang.

Grind all ingredients into a fine powder, mix thoroughly with ground chicken bones and meat, and form into pills using a paste of wine and flour.
