Source

*Formulas for Universal Relief*, Volume 265.

Processing

First, finely grind the sulfur; next, add the mercury. Add a small amount of hot water and grind until it forms a paste. Wait until the mercury stops bubbling, then place it in the crucible along with the black essence and cinnabar. Boil with water for seven days and seven nights; the mixture should bubble like fish eyes. As the water evaporates, replenish it with warm water;Stir occasionally with an iron spoon. When the seven days are up, drain the mixture and continue to simmer over low heat until all the yin energy is exhausted. Then place it in a box and seal it with a paste made by pounding sand basin powder, chalk, and salt flowers into a mud-like consistency. Once dry, place the box in an ash pit and bury both sides of the box with 5 liang of fire to nurture it for 60 days, maintaining a continuous flame day and night; After 60 days, calcine over a high flame using 10 jin of fuel for one day, allowing the fire to burn out naturally. Once cooled, soak in licorice decoction for one day to remove the fire toxicity; the substance will turn a fresh purple color. Allow to dry, then finely grind into a powder. Mix with glutinous rice to form pills the size of millet grains.
