Drug Formulation

Xanthium seed heads (harvested at noon on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month), small Aconite root, fire hemp seed heads, Equisetum (knots removed), toad heads, birch bark nodes (fried with butter), and Ephedra (roots and nodes removed)—each in equal parts.

Processing

Dry the ingredients in the sun, place them together in a porcelain vessel, seal it tightly with salt-mixed clay, and calcine over charcoal fire from dawn until the Shen hour; stop when the mixture turns the color of black coal, then grind into a fine powder.

Instructions for Use

Take 2 qian per dose; for severe cases, 3 qian. Mix with hot wine and swallow. If no sweat has broken out, take another dose. Once sweating has ceased, switch to medications that clear toxins and promote diuresis.
