Papaya and Tiger Bone Pills,Wind-toxin-induced beriberi, characterized by pain and weakness, stiffness of tendons and meridians, and difficulty walking. Bi syndrome caused by the combined effects of wind, cold, and dampness, presenting with heavy, numb legs, pain and weakness, a dull ache in the soles of the feet, inability to step firmly on the ground, spasms in the tendons of the lower back and knees preventing flexion and extension, stiffness in the neck and back, weakness in the hands and feet, ringing in the ears, dizziness, and eye tremors, as well as various other symptoms of beriberi resulting in difficulty walking.

Chinese Name : 木瓜虎骨丸

Drug Formulation

1 papaya (from Xuanzhou) (peeled, seeded, and roasted), 1 liang of dragon’s blood resin (ground), 1 liang of myrrh (ground),frankincense half liang (ground). Grind the above three ingredients together until uniform, place them inside the papaya, then cover tightly with a round lid. Use 1 dou of black beans, rinsed with water; place the papaya inside, cover completely with beans, and steam until soft. Remove and grind into a paste in a sand pot. Tiger shin bone 1 liang (coated with wine and roasted), wood fragrance 1 liang, natural copper (quenched in vinegar 7 times) 1 liang,Maple 1 liang, Balsam 1 liang, Decayed Tortoise Shell (roasted in vinegar, with the skirt-like edges removed) 1 liang, Bone-mending Herb (hairs removed) 1 liang, Sweet Melon Seeds 1 liang, Cinnamon (coarse bark removed) 1 liang, Angelica (sliced, roasted) 1 liang, Earthworm (soil removed) 2 liang, Benzoin 1 liang (simmered in wine over a double boiler, then strained).

Processing

Except for the first four ingredients, grind all the remaining herbs into a fine powder. Combine this powder with the benzoin in the wood apple paste and mix thoroughly. Return the mixture to the mortar and pound 100–200 times. If the mixture becomes slightly dry, add a small amount of good wine and shape into pills the size of a Paulownia seed.
