Drug Formulation

1 qian of dragon’s blood, 3 qian of toad venom, 5 fen of musk, 5 qian of realgar, 3 qian of mercury oxide, 2 qian of frankincense, and 2 qian of myrrh.

Processing

Take 1 dou 2 sheng of buckwheat straw ash or genuine charcoal ash,rinse the ash with 8–9 bowls of water, then simmer over alternating high and low heat using chestnut or mulberry wood until reduced to 3 bowls. Set aside 1 bowl; pour the remaining 2 bowls into a fine porcelain vessel and let cool to lukewarm. Grind the seven medicinal ingredients into an extremely fine powder, add it to the ash decoction, and stir with an iron ladle or a mulberry or willow branch. Then add 1 sheng of high-quality fine slaked lime to the medicinal ash decoction and stir until uniform. Remove from heat, let cool overnight, and transfer to a small white porcelain jar.

Instructions for Use

For any sores located on the head, apply twice a day; on the following day, apply once more. It is ideal when the sore has eroded and broken open by about 5 fen, and blood and fluid begin to ooze out. To prevent the medicine from drying out over time, mix it with the reserved lime solution from the previous application.
