Drug Formulation

1 jin 4 liang of sesame oil (add 2 liang of licorice root; bring to a boil six or seven times before adding the other ingredients), 5 qian of raw Rehmannia root, 5 qian of prepared Rehmannia root (both washed with wine), 5 qian of Ophiopogon tuber, 5 qian of Cistanche deserticola (washed with wine), 5 qian of Polygala root, 5 qian of Cnidium monnieri (soaked in wine),Cuscuta seed (soaked in wine) 5 qian, Achyranthes root (washed with wine) 5 qian, deer antler 5 qian, Sichuan续断 5 qian, tiger bone 5 qian, purple-tipped flower 5 qian, Trichosanthes seed 5 qian, Eupatorium 5 qian, large aconite root 5 qian, cinnamon bark 5 qian.

Processing

Simmer the above ingredients until reduced, then thicken the mixture with 4 liang of boiled colophony and half a jin of refined cinnabar. Next, add 2 qian each of dragon bone, Japanese sulfur, and red cinnabar; then add 3 qian of Yangqishi, 5 fen of musk, and 1 qian each of toad venom and opium; finally, add 5 liang of Huangzhan. Simmer until reduced, then submerge the mixture in a well for 3–4 days.

Instructions for Use

Apply 7–8 qian of the ointment each time, spreading it on a piece of red silk and applying it to the navel or the lumbar region; leave it in place for 50–60 days before replacing it.
