Drug Formulation

5 jin of thick, left-side oyster shells; 7–8 jin of high-quality aromatic vinegar.

Processing

Preparation: Calcine the oyster shells in vinegar until they reach the consistency of butter; place them on clean, cool earth to remove the heat; pick out the clean meat, grind it into a very fine powder, and store for future use.

Instructions for Use

Administer 1 fen per year of age. For each dose, use one soft waterfowl liver; remove the tendons and membranes with a silver hairpin, wipe off the blood with a dry cloth, slit it open with a bamboo knife, mix in the medicine, and steam it in a rice steamer until cooked—do not add salt; eat it plain. For mild cases, 2–3 doses are sufficient; for severe cases, no more than 4–5 doses are needed.

Note

Avoid using iron utensils when preparing the chicken liver.
