Processing

On the 5th day of the 5th month, collect 100 varieties of medicinal plants and herbs; wash them thoroughly, extract their juice, and simmer in an earthenware pot until it becomes a paste. For every 5 jin of herbal paste, add 10 jin of sesame oil, and continue simmering until a drop of the mixture forms a bead when held up;For every 2 jin of oil, add 2 liang each of yellow and white beeswax, 8 liang of refined cinnabar, and 4 liang of colophony; melt them together, then thicken the mixture with half a jin of lead powder to form a paste. Add 5 qian each of frankincense, myrrh, and camphor, and stir thoroughly with a locust tree branch before setting aside for use. The herbs must be collected by someone well-versed in herbal medicine; do not use wild plants that are not medicinal.
