Purple Fat Ointment

Purple Fat Ointment,For chronic leg sores that do not heal.

Formulas Name : Purple Fat Ointment

Chinese Name : 紫脂膏

Drug Formulation

4 liang of high-quality sesame oil, 3 qian of clean Sichuan pepper, and 7 large scallion bulbs (with roots, 7 cun long).

Source

From *Formulas of the Hall of Cultivating Blessings*, Volume 3.

Processing

Decoct all three ingredients together until the scallions are charred and crisp; strain out the residue. Add 5 qian of white rosin and 6 qian of yellow camphor; simmer over low heat until melted. Skim off any scum that rises to the surface, and continue simmering until patterns appear on the oil’s surface. Immediately remove from heat, pour into a bowl, and add 1 qian of high-quality cinnabar. Stir thoroughly to combine, then let cool and solidify. Once solidified, place the bowl face down on the ground for three days to remove the heat toxicity. Spread the ointment between sheets of paper for application; the paper need only have holes pierced on one side.

Benefits

For chronic leg sores that do not heal.

Instructions for Use

Change the poultice every 5 days. If there is pain, wash the area first with licorice decoction; if there is itching, wash with Sichuan pepper decoction. If yellow fluid drains completely after applying the first poultice, the condition will heal after 5–6 applications; if the yellow fluid does not drain completely until the third application, it will take 20 applications to heal.Whenever a plaster discharges fluid upon initial application, it indicates the presence of toxic fumes within the plaster; removing it at this stage is futile. Wait until the fluid has completely drained before reapplying. The used plaster must be preserved for later use when new tissue begins to form and cover the wound; applying this old plaster at that stage is considered the most effective way to complete the treatment.
