Drug Formulation

Fennel Seeds (sorted, roasted in a silver or stone vessel lined with paper) 2 liang, Aged Tangerine Peel (soaked in hot water, white pith removed, and baked) 1 liang,Areca nut (chopped) 1 liang, Frankincense 1 fen (grind the 4 ingredients together with a pestle and sieve into a fine powder), Black Pharbitis (sorted and weighed) 4 liang (slowly stir-fry with 2 liang of Evodia fruit over low heat until the Evodia turns charred; retain only the Pharbitis seeds; grind 1 portion with a pestle to obtain 2 liang of powder).

Processing

Mix the above ingredients thoroughly, then form into pills the size of a Paulownia seed using refined honey.

Instructions for Use

Take 10 to 15 pills per dose, washed down with rice water or Mu Xiang Decoction; if phlegm is present, use half a qian of areca nut powder, half a zhan of water, boil several times, let cool slightly, and take with the pills; for mild purgation, increase the dose to 30 to 40 pills. Administer on an empty stomach, depending on the patient’s condition (deficiency or excess).
