Drug Formulation
1 feathered black-boned chicken (use a female for men, a male for women; stun it, soak to remove feathers, split the flank with a bamboo knife, remove the gallbladder and liver, clean out the intestinal waste, then return them to the abdomen), 4 liang of prepared rehmannia root,Northern Schisandra 1 liang (crushed; place these two ingredients inside the chicken’s abdomen), aged wine and children’s urine, 2 bowls each; boil in a sandpot with water, gradually adding more until the mixture is ground to a pulp and all liquid is extracted), Astragalus root (peeled, mixed with honey water, and roasted) 3 liang, Atractylodes (steamed over rice 9 times) 3 liang, Poria cocos (peeled) 2 liang, Angelica sinensis root (washed with wine) 2 liang,White Peony Root 2 liang (stir-fried with wine; grind these 5 ingredients into a coarse powder, pound them with the chicken meat until pulverized, then bake until dry; roast the bones in clarified butter, grind into a coarse powder, and add to the following ingredients), Ginseng 3 liang (substitute Codonopsis for those who lack vitality), Sichuan Lovage 1 liang (soaked in a child’s urine, then sun-dried), Salvia Root 2 liang (soaked in wine, then sun-dried; grind these 3 ingredients into a powder and mix into the previous mixture).
