Drug Formulation
2 jin of tangled hair (wash thoroughly with soapberry water, sun-dry, then stir-fry in 2 jin of clear sesame oil in an earthenware pot; check frequently by pinching with your fingers; stop when it becomes brittle and tangled like seaweed—do not over-fry), 1 jin of chestnut wedges (i.e., 3 chestnuts forming a single cluster; select those with flat, thin inner layers; remove the shells, slice thinly, and sun-dry),soapberry thorns (burned until red-hot, quenched in rice vinegar, then baked) 1 jin, large black beans (wiped clean of dust and dirt with a damp cloth, outer black skin removed, then baked dry) 1 jin, mulberry twigs (as thick as an arm; burned over charcoal until all smoke has dissipated, quenched in rice vinegar, removed, then baked) 1 jin, castor beans (ground separately, coated with ink) 3 liang,Frankincense (high-quality, finely ground; add 1 bowl of rice vinegar and simmer until fragrant) 4 liang, fine ink half a jin (for half of this, mix 3 liang of castor seeds with the ink in a mortar until thoroughly ground; apply the mixture to the ink until completely covered; wrap in thin paper; seal with yellow clay; dry in the sun; then heat over a 50-jin fire until red-hot; place on the ground; cover with a basin to vent the heat; leave for two meal times.For the other half, dissolve 2 liang of realgar in vinegar, apply it to the ink, and dry it over a moxa fire), realgar (pure and clean, dissolved in vinegar and applied to the ink) 2 liang.

Processing
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder, mix with frankincense paste to form pills the size of a marble. If there is insufficient frankincense paste, add a paste made from flour boiled in vinegar.

Instructions for Use
For severe pain, take 1 pill per dose; for milder cases, take half a pill. Use 1 zhan of ash-free wine and 1 dou-sized piece of frankincense. First, grind the frankincense until it is completely pulverized; then grind the medicine until it is completely pulverized. Simmer for 3–5 boils. Take while warm before bedtime, and lie down on the bed with the affected area facing upward. If you wish to induce sweating, cover yourself more thoroughly with clothing and bedding, and apply the medicine to the injured area. For various women’s ailments, add 1 qian of powdered Angelica sinensis and prepare and take it according to the same method.

Avoid all wind-inducing substances; pregnant women should not take this formula.
