Drug Formulation

Indigo Powder 5 qian, Cinnamon Bark 5 qian, Realgar (large chunks) 5 qian, Prepared Aconite Root 5 qian, Bleached Cinnabar 5 qian, Raw Alum 5 qian, Raw Sulfur 5 qian, Croton Seed Powder 5 qian, White Angelica Root 2 qian, Musk from Dangmen 4 fen.

Processing

Grind each of the above herbs into a fine powder. Use glutinous rice steamed in plain water to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed. Store them in a porcelain jar, taking care not to let the air escape.

Instructions for Use

On the morning of the expected attack, wrap the mixture in a thin cotton cloth and insert it into the nose—the left nostril for men, the right for women—and leave it in until the attack has passed, then remove it. Repeat this procedure three times in succession, and the malaria will never recur. After use, wash the cloth with vinegar, dry it, and store it; it can be reused.

Note

Avoid all fresh, stagnant, or greasy foods; pregnant women should not use this remedy.
