Processing

Take a porcelain box containing oil; add a small amount of frankincense to an incense burner and burn it until smoke rises, then immediately fumigate the interior of the box. Place the prepared medicinal ingredients inside and mix thoroughly. Seal the opening with a paste of oil and oyster shell powder, then apply a layer of paper-glue and salt-mud mixture one finger thick to secure it, and let it air-dry in the shade.Place the box on a brick in a clean room. Mix a small amount of ash with vinegar and pack it tightly around the box, covering the opening to a thickness of about one finger. Arrange 3 jin of raw charcoal in a cluster all around the box, then place 1 jin of lit charcoal on top of the box, gradually heating it evenly.Wait until the fire has burned down to more than 80 percent of its original intensity, then immediately remove the remaining embers. Allow it to cool thoroughly for a long time. Open the box and retrieve the medicine; it will have turned into a liquid as smooth as a mirror’s surface. Pound it to a fine powder, mix with glutinous rice, and form into pills the size of a pea or a large mung bean, then coat them with cinnabar.
