Processing

1 raw turtle shell (preferably from a black-bellied turtle; yellow or “soup-type” shells are not suitable); soak and simmer in 3 jin of cold-pressed sesame oil, then strain and set aside for later use; combine the first 75 ingredients (excluding talc) with the last 20 ingredients and simmer in 24 jin of the same oil, then strain;Combine the turtle shell oil with the remaining mixtures and simmer until a red pill is formed; then add 1 jin of roasted lead powder, 4 liang of raw gypsum, 1 liang each of indigo powder and mercury oxide, 2 liang of magnetite (calcined with vinegar), 1 liang each of cassia bark, amomum, and wood fragrant, 4 liang of ox glue (steamed with wine until dissolved, following the method for Qingyang Ointment), and 5 qian of cinnabar; reduce to a paste and set aside.

Instructions for Use
