Formula
30 grams of Cistanche, 2 sheep kidneys, and appropriate amounts of wine, chopped scallions, minced ginger, salt, and MSG.Main Ingredients
How To Make
Wash the sheep kidneys, split them open with a knife, remove the connective tissue, slice them, and then mince them into a paste.Soak Cistanche in wine for several hours, remove the wrinkled skin, cut into soybean-sized cubes, and place in a pot. Add the minced lamb kidneys and an appropriate amount of water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat until the mixture thickens into a decoction. Add chopped scallions, minced ginger, salt, and MSG, stir until well blended, and serve.

Cistanche (Rou-cong-rong) assumes the leading (chief) role. Sweet, salty-warm in property, it travels through the Kidney, Large Intestine meridians, and works to tonify kidney yang, benefits essence and moisten the intestines. Sheep kidneys (Yang-shen) serve as the deputy herb. Sweet-warm in property, it enters the Kidney meridians and works to tonify the kidney and enriches essence. Appropriate amounts of wine lends further support to the chief action. Among the assistants, chopped scallions (Cong-hua) (disperse wind-cold and releases the exterior) while minced ginger (disperse cold and stop vomiting). Finally, salt (Yan) serves as the envoy herb, harmonizing the whole; its role is to guides the formula downward and clear heat and coordinate the herbs. Taken together these herbs nourish the spleen and strengthen the kidneys, in keeping with the chronic prostatitis pattern and its manifestations such as aching pain in the lower back and spine, generalized weakness.
